Lord, we lift up Claire Trevena, MLA for North Island. We thank you for her years of dedicated service and ask for your blessing upon her as she serves her constituents and our province. Grant her wisdom and clarity in the committee’s and sub-committees she serves on, and we specifically ask for wisdom and ideas for ongoing transportation strategies in our province. Father, today we ask that you would fill her the full measure of God. Amen.
Claire was first elected as MLA for North Island in May 2005 and was re-elected for a third term in May 2013.
Claire serves as Opposition Spokesperson for Transportation and Infrastructure, B.C. Ferries, and B.C. Transit.
Claire is a former journalist, activist and international development worker.
In the early 1990s, Claire came to Canada as the BBC’s Canada correspondent. Awarded the Canadian Civilian Peacekeeping Medal, she’s worked on democratic development projects overseas and in Canada.
Claire was an active trade unionist in her professional life. Since moving to B.C. she has been involved in a number of community and environmental initiatives. She was elected to the board of the Quadra Community Association and held a seat on the Regional District of Comox Strathcona Regional Area J Advisory Planning Committee.
Prior to the 2005 election, Claire ran a small communications business on Quadra Island with her husband, Mike McIvor.
