Heavenly Father, today we pray for Dr. Luanne Metz, MLA for Calgary-Varsity. Thank You for the knowledge she brings from decades as a physician, neurologist, medical researcher, professor, and health-care leader. Luanne’s connection to this constituency extends beyond politics. She is a long-time Varsity resident who raised her own family there while building her medical and academic career at the University of Calgary. As she brings that experience to her work concerning the future of health care, give Luanne wisdom to recognize effective solutions. Help her combine scientific evidence and clinical knowledge with compassion for patients and those who work throughout Alberta’s health-care system. Help her listen respectfully to differing perspectives and represent Calgary-Varsity faithfully. Give Luanne health, clarity of thought, and endurance. Dr. Luanne Metz was elected as the MLA for Calgary-Varsity in 2023. A neurologist with more than 30 years of experience, she has served in leadership roles with Alberta Health Services and as a professor at the University of Calgary. Much of her research has focused on multiple sclerosis, contributing to more than 250 publications throughout her career. She has received numerous honours, including being named a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. Born in Saskatchewan and raised in Calgary, Luanne earned her medical degree from the University of Calgary and completed further training in internal medicine, neurology, multiple sclerosis, and neuroimmunology. She has two children and enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, travelling, and playing board games.
