MLA Dr. Luanne Metz, Calgary-Varsity

Luanne Metz

Father, today we thank you for MLA Dr. Luanne Metz. We thank you for her years of service in the medical field, and we thank you that she brings that experience, wisdom, and passion to her current role as MLA. We pray she would be a voice of encouragement and light as she goes about her work in the Legislature. We pray you would bless her and her family with times of connection and peace. Luanne Metz was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary-Varsity on May 29, 2023. She is currently a member of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities. Dr. Metz is an accomplished neurologist and has worked in the medical field in various capacities for over 30 years. She has also been a professor in different capacities with the University of Calgary, most recently as an Emerita professor. Along with her busy work schedule, Dr. Metz found time to volunteer in her community. She is the founder of Eyes Forward Alberta (2020 to 2021), was the neurology representative and academic representative for the Alberta Medical Association, and the founding president of the Canadian Network of MS Clinics. Among her many honours and awards, Dr. Metz was inducted as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2020. She received the Medal of Distinguished Service from the Alberta Medical Association in 2015, the Watanabe Distinguished Achievement award from the University of Calgary (Faculty of Medicine) in 1999, and a Calgary Women of Achievement award from YWCA Calgary in 2001. She has two children, and loves spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, playing board games and traveling.
